He was born in Tavşanlı village of Of which is district Trabzon province in 1929. 10 yaşında, köyün imamlığını yapan babası Ali Efendi ve annesi Fatma Hanım'ın hocalığında hafızlığını tamamladı. Mehmet Rüştü Âşık Kutlu Hoca'dan talim dersleri aldı. Balaban köyünde Hoca Abdülvehhab Efendi'den Arapça okudu.
